Carmageddon vs. Eat Real Festival

After Zumba, mom and I hightailed it to L.A. The big Carmageddon didn't get us down. Actually, we got lucky. 2/3 the people normally on the roads took the weekend off so the traffic was really light on all freeways. We listened to the traffic report and tuned in just as Mayor Villaraigosa announced the reopening of the 405 sixteen hours ahead of time. Too bad we were a few minutes too early.

We found the Eat Real Festival pretty easily in the Helms Bakery District. They had parking and a shuttle.

There were food trucks. We didn't eat but mom wanted a coconut.

I wanted an ice cream sandwich from Coolhaus but saved myself for later ventures in LA.

We tried lots of samples.

My favorites included:

Mom had watermelon from the watermelon pickling and we watched a home brewing demonstration.

The festival wasn't as large as I had anticipated. It took us just under 2 hours to enjoy and left us with much of the day to explore the rest of LA on this peaceful and sunny Sunday.
