High Five: 50/50 + survey

HIGH FIVE for getting called back for a second interview with the principal. This means I have a 50/50 shot?! The interview is on Wednesday at 10 A.M. Remind me!

HIGH FIVE for a self-prescribed workout.

Jill Coleman's "How to Lean Out Your Legs" was meant for me! I took her tips and headed the gym yesterday to do a LiveFit-esque workout.
  • Sprints - 1 min on, 30 sec off (5 rounds)
  • Leg extension - 70# x 15 (3 sets)
  • Wide stance barbell squat - 55# x 10 (3 sets)
  • Squat press - 250# x 10 (4 sets)
  • Seated calf raise - 210# x 10 (3 sets)
  • Leg curl - 50# x 10 (2 sets)
  • Leg press - 210# x 10 (3 sets)
  • Deadlift - 75# x 10 (3 sets)
  • Stair climber - 5 minutes
HIGH FIVE for Thirsty Thursday! After a dull day at work, I met up with my friend Sara for drinks in Long Beach. First stop, Rock Bottom Brewery. I ordered the beer flight.

The White Ale was my favorite. The stout tasted like straight up coffee.
Nope, we weren't done. We went to Congregation Ale House as well where we "shared" a Black Market Brewing hefeweizen.

I headed home, texted or messaged a bunch of friends for no reason, and was lulled to bed by the sounds of Pandora.

HIGH FIVE for waking up early the next day. I headed to yoga and boy was it tough today! We worked into side crow and I can get my top leg straight!

Like this but I probably don't look as put together

Today's my day off so I'm taking a midday luxury nap & I'm hoping going to study after I finish this fun survey. :)

A. Attached or Single?

Single.

B. Best friend(s)?

Yancey, forever and ever even if we're near and don't talk sometimes.

C. Cake or Pie?

Best cake I've ever tasted from MILK in Los Angeles.

So cake it is. Unless it's pumpkin pie, but I mostly like the filling. Unless the crust is unconventional pie crust.

D. Day of choice?

Thursday and Saturdays. Thursdays because it's almost the end of the week and sometimes Fridays are a disappointment. Saturdays are always a good time.

E. Essential item?

Q-Tips, the paper kind. Plastic bends so easily! I can't recall how many times I've regretted forgetting them.

F. Favorite color?

Retro pistachio (KitchenAid mixer color), the exact orange in this picture, and ice blue

G. Gummy bears or worms?

Bears, but right now, these are my favorite:

H. Hometown?

Huntington Beach, CA, but I lived on the interior.

I. Favorite indulgence?

Traveling

 and getting a mani-pedi.

J. January of July?

My birthday is in July and even though it's hot and sometimes dull (yes, I said it), I meet new friends and go hiking.

K. Kids?

None at this time. Right now, I don't foresee myself having kids because I could never give enough [time] to my kids and to my students at the same time.

L. Life isn't complete without...

My students. That's the first thing I could think of... and my phone!

M. Marriage date?

Maybe one day. I'm more partial to this than having kids at least.

N. Number of brothers/sisters?

None.

O. Oranges or Apples?

Apples! I'm pretty sad it's not apple picking season right now!
What's your favorite? Fujis, Honey Crips, and Pink Ladies are my favorite

Heights combined with water.

Everyday.

U. Unknown fact about me

I can't swim.

No joke.

Okay, fine. This is true too.

WIAW: Over the hump

I made it! Today was my last day of class - we had to present, which was no big deal in comparison to the rest of my week. Boy was this week a big hump to get over!

Now for some fun?! Well, not quite. I'm supposed to hear back from interview #2 by Friday either way - the did a set of interviews on Tuesday and have some on Friday too - and have no idea when I'll hear back from interview #1 since the principal, who must interview a second time, is on vacation until next week.

I'm going to be a wreck till I hear back from them and depending on their decision, I may or may not be a wreck.

Okay, onto something less nerve-wracking:

As a kid, I hated carrots, but I've munched on carrots raw and made carrot cake protein smoothies with carrot juice. Then I picked up the carrot cake Luna bar from Target and loved it!

Breakfast pre-yoga

Today was my Wednesday yoga instructor's last class after teaching the same class for a few years. It was pretty tough - I could hardly keep focus and balance and that was just frustrating.

Chobani bite with my lunch and lots of highlighters as I make my own schedule for work.

A blast from the past: Asheville-based Gallo Lea pizza kits! I was in a time crunch but need to go back to pick one up!

Instead, I grabbed a snack from GNC. This location had the Quest Nutrition protein PB cups, of which I ate one along with the bar.

Verdict: drier but good for what it is.

Also, I had to share these bras!

I won a purple Handful Bra from Blend and loved it! They're trying to bring back the manufacturing to the U.S.A. and I love the new colors!

Time to catch up on "MasterChef" and keep myself busy for the next couple of days!

Toughin' it out

Interview #1 was bright and early yesterday. After a shaky start, which wasn't too bad because the questions were straight-forward, I started to be more verbal. 20 minutes is such a short time! It'll be harder to fit everything in tomorrow when my interviewers know less about me.

Now I sit and wait. The principal does a second interview, but she's actually on vacation so that may slow the process.

Should I have revealed to the world via social media that I have these interviews? I'll be embarrassed if I get neither. At the same time, I couldn't hold it in and I got a lot of support from friends and co-workers. They sent me interview questions, texts, and my mom even bought me a new dress for the interviews.

I'm not actually worried about being embarrassed as I am about not getting either position. I have a knack/niche for teaching and the school who gets me would be lucky. It's common knowledge.

After some thought, I considered that yesterday could have been a courtesy interview, but the one today is not and that they are actually more interested. I can literally walk to my interview and it would take me less than 5 minutes.

If all was equal, I would stay with my current school - I love the students and I love the staff... and my students would totally be devastated. I've been in this situation before though and I adjusted completely fine. No matter where I end up, I will love it and I will excel.

Onto less serious things...

I didn't forget about the squat challenge.

Work and homework kept me busy all day... until now.

My little cousin entertained me though.

And took silly pictures of me.

I'm fierce. Hah.

Selfie. Not looking so bad. Maybe one day it'll be closer up.

Easy-to-digest foods are doing wonders on my tummy: smoothies/shakes, a sandwich with protein, Quest bars, and protein pancakes. I've pretty much cut out meat except chicken because it's so hard to digest.

So yeah, can I be Paleo without the beef? Those heavy meals really did a number on me.

I occupied myself with work, school work, "MasterChef," and a workout this morning.

Howard is hot, but Lynn deserved to stay.

Cardio: step with weights makes for a good sweat session.

MIMM: Typical summer weekend?

Friday
My #yogainspace challenge has stalled because no one will take pictures of me anymore.

I tried to take some MARVELOUS ones of my own.

On bad days, I remember that I'm strong, talented, and full of passion and love for those who are worth it. Emo much? MARVELOUS? Yes. :)

 Case in point:

Mom: "Go get the bag of rice."

Thanks CrossFit. I actually went on Friday for kettlebell swings, lateral jumps, and pistols!

Friday was literally and figuratively the longest day ever. I despise office work.

First real meal in days pre-"Man of Steel" at Mother's Market. I ate the sandwich open-faced and it was MARVELOUS!

"Man of Steel" was long, not the best superhero movie and I didn't think the actor was hot either. You?

Saturday

MARVELOUS 3.8-mile Saturday morning hike with some new friends and some rocks to climb.

Escondido Falls in Malibu was rather dried up though.

The MARVELOUS lemongrass chicken salad sans dressing at Greenleaf Chopshop

We headed to a Korean spa to relax. It was definitely not what I expected. We showered, sat in the hot tub, and tried the "ice room."

We spent a few hours there then got a message about some beer pong and fun.

I played 7 games and only lost one! Return of the beer pong queen?!

My partner was the guy in red for 4 games.

I took the girls home then returned to continue hanging out.

Always a MARVELOUS time with these guys! The guy in blue and I beat the two guys in black twice!

Sunday
I managed to wake up for power yoga with my MARVELOUS instructor, Robert.

Excuse the dirty stovetop - my mom bought me a MARVELOUS new pan. Not as pretty as my old one, but it works!

I immediately used the pan. I hadn't eaten since that salad yesterday at 3 P.M.!

Post-yoga breakfast: oatmeal protein pancakes with banana slices. Prettiest I've ever made them!

Guess I had too much fun and beer to remember to eat!

With that said, it's time to get to work and prepare myself for some interviews! Eeek!
