What's for dinner?: My own "survive on $35"

I mentioned that I'm budgeting. So far, so good. I'm sticking to $100 per week.

I have $40-50 for gas, which will vary depending on my needs.

$35 goes towards food. I never thought I spent that much but after looking at what I buy at $35, I realized I go far beyond. I might even go 1.5-2xs this budget.

Does the $35 look like a familiar number? The number is based off of FitFluential's Survive on 35 challenge. $35 is just about the amount given to those on food stamps, and it is actually pretty reasonable for one person. However, for a single lady, it's tough without the things I already had on hand.

The leftover is either saved, hopefully.

As for bills (loans, credit card, car insurance, cell phone), I will use my paychecks from my nighttime job. The paycheck from my morning job will be used for the $100 per week and then saved. On average, I should be able to save a huge chunk.

  1. You need to do Live Below the Line with me in May. You are supposed to only eat $1.50 worth of food a day because this is what people in extreme poverty in other countries live on. It was for charity and it was very hard. Off to look at Survive on 35.

  2. Wow, I love that you're tying in frugality to meal planning- that is definitely a benefit of having a plan. You're so organized- looks like a great plan!
