Okay, I don't have any brioche, but I delved into the world of challah last week when I bought a loaf from Loaf Child Bakery at the West Asheville Tailgate Market.
I remember the first time I heard the world challah. My friend Liz mentioned how much she liked challah bread that our Jewish friend made. Cool word. So cool that I still remember when I first heard it.
Not only is challah Jewish, it uses honey in the modern version. It's also braided for some religious purpose.
Brioche, on the other hand, is French.
So what does either have to do with Thailand? Nothing at all, but the Thai coffee bread pudding sounded like a good idea.
What I'd like to know now is whether challah or brioche make better French toasts. I'll find myself a brioche loaf this week and let you know. I'm hoping it's the French brioche, but maybe I should root for the underdog.
