Real home: garden ideas

I have never mowed a lawn in my life. My parents were obsessed. I'd replace the grass with rocks if I could in my garden.

Good thing I live in the Southwest and can just go with cacti and succulents.

When I lived in North Carolina, I tried to make a terrarium. It was fantastic until I left it out and it flooded and broke. :/

This is easier to build and can accommodate lots of plants, plus the water goes through.

Floral in the front

In my last post on the curb appeal of our prospective home, I decided to address small items in a picture.* The picture of the home I included is not the one we are buying per se, but at our budget here in Southern California, we will have a fixer-upper and it'll probably be similar to this.

Flowers belong in the front yard. The backyard is reserved as a garden where we will have fruits and veggies.

The first step: the front door

Mom mentioned that a home in my uncle's track is for sale. It's gross. The carpets are a mess and the bathroom is horrendous, but she believes that it's a good price for the neighborhood. Also, she'd have enough to fix it up.

I know, it's not as nice as all the others' bloggers eventual homes, but it would be a major project to tackle and tons of fun, right?!

This may not be our home, but it's something we'll have to look forward to... sadly. :/

There's a lot to fix, but I just have to address with this picture alone.

• Front door is horrible. I hate those shiny etched glassed doors!
• Landscaping OF COURSE.
• Ugly prison/schoolyard fencing. Don't ya love that school yard and prisons are related here?

So I decided to find pictures of better options. Starting with the front door...

Growing up, we had a pretty solid door but had windows on the top. Tall people could see inside and knew if we were home and if we were trying to hide from their sales. So no windows please, unless of course, they're awesome/not etched/lack flowers.

Substitution for baking

I'm searching for more hobbies to replace baking. My roommate suggested gardening. Uh, I'm the girl who killed a cactus. Plus, our outdoors is gross. Our garage is gross as is our basement too. In any case, I don't want to invest in this house anymore. I want a hobby that satisfies my soul, like reading and watching movies or going to the gym and experiencing the world by going outside. Anyways, it was a bad suggestion (sorry), however, I would like to garden someday.

I decided I want a simple garden like this one:

I once killed a cactus.

I love cactus and succulents. They don't take much work, but only if you live in the dessert desert. (I talk about dessert all the time!)

I once made a terrarium, thought my cactus and succulents needed more sunshine, and forgot all about it. Then it rained and my terrarium flooded and broke. :(

To live in the West again, I would plant a garden. A hopefully easy to maintain one because I don't have a green thumb.
