#1: Glorious vanilla bean vs. plain vanilla

I started with those mango & vanilla bean buttermilk panna cottas. They were delicious. My attempts at vanilla bean things never work out - the vanilla bean taste just disappears. But no, the panna cotta was a perfect base for the vanilla bean. Not only does it lack flavor but it's white so you can see all the pretty little vanilla bean specks.
I first fell in love with vanilla bean in vanilla bean churned ice creams. There was this grainy texture and scent that vanilla bean ice cream had over regular vanilla. Now vanilla is just so plain boring and I always have vanilla beans and/or vanilla bean paste on hand. :)
